Earlier this month, Sega made waves by confirming a stellar lineup of guest characters for *Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds*, including Hatsune Miku, Ichiban Kasuga from *Yakuza*, Joker from *Persona 5*, and even Steve, Alex, and the Creeper from *Minecraft*. But that was just the beginning. The latest update brings an exciting Nickelodeon collaboration into the mix, officially adding SpongeBob SquarePants to the roster. Sega also teased future additions, hinting at upcoming characters from *Avatar* and *Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles*.
*Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds* is more than just a kart racer — it’s a celebration of Sega’s iconic legacy, filled with beloved characters from across its storied history. Alongside fan-favorites like Sonic, Dr. Eggman, Knuckles, Shadow, and Tails, the game now features high-profile crossover characters that expand the roster significantly. Those who opt for the *Digital Deluxe Edition* gain access to the Season Pass, which includes all the Nickelodeon content, the recently revealed *Minecraft* characters, vehicles, and tracks, as well as characters from the *Sonic Prime* Netflix series and two additional mystery collaborations yet to be revealed.
In a newly released trailer, SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star are shown racing through the Bikini Bottom track in the Patty Wagon — a vehicle modeled after the iconic Krabby Patty. This vibrant and immersive track captures the essence of the long-running animated series and adds a fresh layer of fun to the gameplay experience.
Sega has confirmed that *CrossWorlds* will offer a massive roster of playable characters when all DLC is accounted for. From classic Sega icons to surprise crossovers, the game promises something for every type of racer. With its release slated for September on both Switch and Switch 2, *Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds* is directly positioning itself as a competitor to Nintendo’s highly anticipated *Mario Kart World* — a title that has so far remained exclusive to the Mario universe.
IGN recently had the chance to play an early version of the game and came away with a positive impression. “It’s a vibe,” our preview read. “and one that I’ve enjoyed and will look forward to drifting through.”
