Ubisoft quietly launches a new NFT game: Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E.
Ubisoft's latest venture into the NFT gaming space, Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., requires players to purchase an NFT to participate. Eurogamer broke the news on December 20th, highlighting the game's unique access model.
This top-down multiplayer arcade shooter expands the universe of the Netflix series, Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, incorporating elements from popular Ubisoft franchises like Watch Dogs and Assassin's Creed. The game's competitive multiplayer mode is limited to 10,000 players, each needing a Citizen ID Card NFT. This card tracks in-game achievements and evolves based on player performance, offering potential resale value.
The Citizen ID Card, costing approximately $25.63, is purchased via a crypto wallet from Ubisoft's Magic Eden page. Players can even relinquish their citizenship and sell their ID. A full launch is slated for Q1 2025, with early access for those who secure their ID early.
The game's narrative is set within the same dystopian 1992 alternate reality as the Netflix series, a spin-off of Far Cry 3's Blood Dragon DLC. Players take on the role of citizens under Eden's control, influencing the game's story through mission completion, leaderboard rankings, and community engagement.
