The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Rune Slayer

Author : Henry Mar 15,2025

After two failed launches and months of anticipation, Rune Slayer has arrived, and it's fantastic! While incredibly fun, the game has a steep learning curve, especially for newcomers to MMORPGs. Fear not, aspiring Rune Slayers! This guide will help you conquer the realm.

Here are some crucial tips we wish we'd known starting out:

Don't Randomly Attack Other Players

Initial concerns about Rune Slayer's full-loot PvP proved largely unfounded. Death doesn't mean losing your gear—you simply respawn. However, attacking players earns you a bounty. The more kills, the larger the bounty, and the more you lose upon death. Essentially, full-loot PvP is self-inflicted. Unless you're strategically ganking with friends, avoid unprovoked attacks.

Craft Bags Immediately

Inventory and bank space are severely limited. Fortunately, crafting bags expands your capacity. The initial Cotton Bag adds 10 slots. Gather Cotton north of Wayshire and Flax south (beware of tougher mobs there) and craft these ASAP.

Your Pets Don't Actually Die

Contrary to initial impressions, your pets don't perish permanently. After reaching zero health, they have a five-minute summon cooldown (check with the 'T' key). Simply wait and resummon. Bonus tip: Quickly heal your pet by storing and retrieving it at the stable master (you have one free slot).

Accept Every Quest

Rune Slayer boasts a plethora of mostly unremarkable, non-repeatable fetch quests. To streamline your progress, accept every quest you encounter, including those from the job board. Often, multiple quests can be completed simultaneously.

Craft Everything (Even Unnecessary Items)

Prioritize crafting essential items, but use spare materials to experiment. Crafting unlocks new recipes and often more powerful options. For example, smelting Iron Ore unlocked a range of improved Iron Armor.

Join a Guild

While Rune Slayer is solo-friendly, tougher enemies necessitate group play. Guilds are the easiest way to find groups, particularly for challenging bosses. Look for guilds through in-game chat or the official Rune Slayer Discord.
