Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo brothers are back, and this time, it's Doctor Doom's world! Marvel's upcoming storyline, "One World Under Doom," promises a prolonged era of Doom's reign, not just a fleeting event. Expect Doom as World Emperor, Sorcerer Supreme, and leader of the Superior Avengers throughout much of 2025.
The Superior Avengers? Think villains, but not as you know them. Familiar names will be worn by new characters:
- Abomination: Kristoff, Doom's adopted son and Reed Richards' half-brother.
- Dr. Octopus: A new, unnamed woman.
- Ghost: A nameless woman, reminiscent of the Ant-Man version.
- Killmonger: A reimagined portrayal.
- Malekith: The Black Elves remain on Earth.
- Onslaught: A significant addition to the team.
This six-issue series, launching in April, is written by Steve Fox and illustrated by Luca Maresca.
This isn't the first time villains have taken over the Avengers mantle. Remember Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers in 2009 or Hydra's Secret Empire Avengers? Doom's ascension, however, is a culmination of events:
Emperor Doom: While not the first instance of Doom's global dominance, the 1987 graphic novel perfectly encapsulates the concept of a Doom-ruled world.
President Doom 2099: In this futuristic tale, Doom nearly conquers America, showcasing his ambition and distinctive 90s attitude.
Secret Wars (2015): Doom's role in this event highlights his relentless pursuit of power and immortality, even if his methods are questionable. His actions, like marrying Sue Storm, are driven by personal grievances.
Blood Hunt (2024): This vampire invasion storyline is key. Doctor Strange enlists Doom to combat the threat, granting him the title of Sorcerer Supreme, a power he retains even after the vampire crisis subsides.
With the Russo/Downey Jr. team crafting the story, prepare for a world under the iron fist of Doctor Doom. The stage is set.
