Rummy 500 (also called Persian Rummy, Pinochle Rummy, 500 Rum, or 500 Rummy) is a favorite Rummy variation. While similar to standard Rummy, it stands out by allowing players to draw multiple cards from the discard pile, not just the top one.
Under standard Rummy 500 rules, players earn points for melded cards and lose points for deadwood—unmelded cards remaining in hand when a player goes out.
Game Rules:
• Play with 2–4 players, as in most versions.
• Only one deck including jokers is used.
• Each player receives 7 cards.
• The goal is to be the first player to reach 500 points.
• If multiple players hit the target, only the highest scorer wins.
• Form sets and sequences. Sets include 3–4 cards of the same rank; sequences are 3+ consecutive cards of the same suit. Scoring is based on the values of cards in your valid sets and sequences.
• Each turn begins by drawing a card and ends by discarding one.
• You may also lay down a meld or add to an existing meld (known as building) during your turn.
• Jokers are wild and can substitute for any card in a set or sequence.
• You may pick up several cards from the discard pile, but you must use the most recently discarded one.
• When drawing from the discard pile, you must use the card immediately in a meld, or the move is invalid.
• Face cards are worth 10 points. An ace may score 11 points in a meld, but counts as 15 penalty points if caught in your hand. A joker takes the value of the card it replaces and adds 15 penalty points if held.
• The game consists of multiple rounds.
• Points accumulate round by round. The first player to reach or exceed the target score wins.
• The game concludes once the target is met; in case of a tie, a playoff decides the winner.
