Nintendo Updates Switch Online App: New Features Revealed

Author : Bella Jun 17,2025

With the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 just around the corner on June 5, Nintendo has rolled out a major update to its companion app, now rebranded as the Nintendo Switch App. This marks a strategic shift in branding, especially considering that "Nintendo Switch Online" was previously tied to Nintendo’s subscription service, which offers online multiplayer features and access to a vast library of classic games from the NES, SNES, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, and—starting with the Nintendo Switch 2 launch—the newly added GameCube libraries.

The latest version, 3.0.1, not only drops the word “Online” from the name but also debuts a cleaner, more user-friendly interface. The update adds full support for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, including seamless integration for GameChat invitations. Users can now manage their friends list directly through the app, and opt-in to receive real-time notifications whenever a friend logs in.

One of the most notable enhancements is the improved media management system, allowing players to upload screenshots and video clips directly to the app—a feature sure to be welcomed by content creators and casual users alike.
