Sony Unveils teamLFG: New PlayStation Studio from Bungie, Developing Team-Based Action Game

Author : Henry May 14,2025

Sony has recently announced the formation of a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, which originated from Bungie, the developer behind Destiny and Marathon. The studio is currently working on an ambitious incubation project that has caught the attention of Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, who expressed his excitement about the project on the PlayStation Blog.

The name teamLFG, which stands for 'Looking For Group,' hints at the studio's focus on social gaming. Their debut game is described as a team-based action game that draws inspiration from a diverse range of genres including fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." Set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new mythic, science-fantasy universe, the game aims to foster a sense of friendship, community, and belonging among players.

teamLFG emphasizes creating immersive multiplayer worlds where players can learn, play, and master the game for countless hours. The studio plans to involve the community in the development process through early access playtests, ensuring they can react to player feedback both before and after the game's launch to continuously grow the game and its community.

The incubation project that teamLFG is working on was spun out of Bungie following significant layoffs last year. After Sony's acquisition, Bungie struggled to meet financial targets with Destiny 2, leading to layoffs in November 2023 and again in 2024, affecting a total of 320 employees. Amid these changes, 155 employees were integrated elsewhere within Sony Interactive Entertainment, and the incubation project was announced.

In related news, a former Bungie lawyer praised Sony's role in pushing through improvements to Destiny 2, calling it a positive move. Bungie has since revealed their extraction shooter, Marathon, and outlined the future roadmap for Destiny 2. However, the studio has no plans for Destiny 3 and has canceled a Destiny spinoff called Payback.
