Developer Warns of Scams: The Witcher 4 Beta Tests

Author : Lillian May 15,2025

CD Projekt Red, the developers behind The Witcher series, have issued a stern warning to fans regarding a rampant scam involving fake beta test invitations for the highly anticipated The Witcher 4. In a statement released on The Witcher's official Twitter (X) account on April 16, CD Projekt Red clarified that any invitations to participate in a beta test for the game are fraudulent. They emphasized that they are actively working to remove these misleading messages and encouraged fans to report any such scams using the tools provided by their email or social media platforms. The studio assured fans that any legitimate future beta tests would be announced through their official channels.

The announcement of The Witcher 4 came during the Game Awards in December 2024, accompanied by a trailer that introduced Ciri as the new protagonist, shifting the series' focus from the iconic Geralt of Rivia. This decision sparked significant discussion within the gaming community. In an interview with VGC, The Witcher 4 Narrative Director Phillipp Weber addressed the fans' reactions. He expressed his understanding of their attachment to Geralt but highlighted the team's commitment to showcasing Ciri's potential as a lead character. Weber noted, "The best thing that we can do, and I think this is really our goal, is to prove that with Ciri, we can do a lot of interesting things so we can really make it worth it because this decision to have Ciri as a protagonist wasn’t made yesterday, we started making this a very long time ago."

The Witcher 4 Executive Producer, Małgorzata Mitręga, also shared his thoughts on the community's response, expressing gratitude for the support and acknowledging the passion behind the fans' opinions. He stated, "Everyone has the right to have an opinion, and we do believe it comes from the passion for our games and I think the best answer for that will be the game itself when the game is released."

CD Projekt Red has promised that The Witcher 4 will be the most ambitious installment in the series, featuring new regions and monsters. The game is slated for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though a specific release date has yet to be announced.
