"The Two Embers: Part One Unveils Sky: Children of the Light

As a fan of thatgamecompany’s Sky: Children of the Light, I'm thrilled about their latest venture into storytelling with their first-ever in-game animated feature, The Two Embers. Known for its mesmerizing art style, compelling presentation, and rich narrative, Sky is taking a bold step with this new project. The premiere of The Two Embers: Part One is scheduled for a limited in-game screening starting July 21st. This silent animated feature will delve into the origins of the Sky universe, offering a unique cinematic experience.

The story of The Two Embers is divided into two parts, with the first part focusing on the journeys of two children, separated by time yet connected on a deeper level. It begins with a young orphan living on the fringes of The Ruler’s City, a once-thriving place now teetering on the edge of collapse. The narrative takes a poignant turn when the child discovers a wounded baby manatee, exploring themes of grief, loneliness, and the power of small acts of kindness. Meanwhile, The Ruler observes the kingdom's decline from above, as a menacing storm looms on the horizon.

Without any dialogue or voiceovers, The Two Embers relies solely on visuals, music, and emotion to convey its story. The absence of words does not detract from the emotional depth; instead, it allows players to fully immerse themselves in the child’s journey of grief and the manatee's symbol of hope.

thatgamecompany has released the first look at The Two Embers: Part One. You can watch the trailer right here:

Every week, a new chapter of the film will be unlocked inside Sky Cinema, a specially built in-game movie theater. Each chapter will also introduce new in-game content, allowing players to explore the story's elements more deeply through interactive gameplay.

The decision to release The Two Embers within the game itself, rather than as a standalone film or on a streaming platform, is a bold and innovative move by thatgamecompany. This approach not only enhances the immersive experience of Sky but also elevates it beyond a typical gaming experience. Alongside the upcoming Aurora's concert, The Two Embers marks a significant step in expanding the game's universe through transmedia storytelling.

The film is a collaborative effort, produced by Light & Realm in partnership with thatgamecompany, and co-produced by Illusorium Studios and Orchid. This project represents one of the most ambitious undertakings by thatgamecompany to date.
