"Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy Announced for Nintendo Switch 2"

Author : Camila May 15,2025

In the latest installment of Nintendo's Creator's Voice series, Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of the Final Fantasy Remake series, announced that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. This exciting news marks a significant expansion for the game, which was initially released on the PS4 in 2020 and later enhanced for the PS5.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is an upgraded version of the original PS4 release, featuring enhanced graphics and lighting, as well as the Intermission DLC. This DLC introduces players to the adventures of Yuffie, the spirited ninja, as she explores Midgar. Currently available on PS5 and PC, Intergrade is set to leverage the improved capabilities of the Switch 2 to deliver a full-spec experience of Midgar.

Hamaguchi expressed enthusiasm about the portability of the Switch 2, noting, "Being able to play this game on the Switch 2 in handheld mode means you can play it on the train while commuting to work." This feature not only enhances the gaming experience but also facilitates easier sharing and discussion of the game among players.

The Switch 2 version will also include GameChat, allowing players to communicate with friends and share their screens in real-time. Hamaguchi is optimistic about the potential for a strong partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand, stating, "I’m very excited to see this game playable on a portable system... I have high hopes that we can build a strong partnership between Nintendo and the Final Fantasy brand."

While only Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade has been confirmed for the Switch 2 so far, Hamaguchi hinted at future releases, saying, "I hope players are looking forward to the Final Fantasy VII Remake series on Switch 2." This suggests that subsequent entries in the trilogy, including Rebirth and the final installment, may also make their way to the Switch 2.

This development is particularly noteworthy as the Final Fantasy series began on Nintendo consoles before transitioning to the PlayStation 1 with Final Fantasy VII in 1997. The return of Final Fantasy VII to Nintendo hardware with the remake series is a full-circle moment for fans of the franchise.
