Nothing on PlayStation 5 matches the Forza Horizon 5 experience.
The Crew Motorfest comes closest, adopting Horizon's full-fledged festival vibe more than its predecessors ever did. Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown? Not quite. While Horizon owes inspiration to the original Test Drive Unlimited’s MMO racing, Solar Crown stumbled with its always-online requirement—something Horizon solved years ago.
Need for Speed Unbound dazzles with deeper customization than Horizon, but its arcade-police chase focus makes it an entirely different beast.
Simply put, Forza Horizon 5 dominates modern open-world racing—and now PlayStation 5 owners can finally dive in. From Mexico’s breathtaking landscapes to physics that make drifting pure joy, and a staggering garage of 900+ cars (including rarities you won’t find elsewhere), Horizon 5 delivers the complete package.
The PlayStation community’s enthusiasm has been a delight.

Playground Games’ art director Don Arceta shares the excitement: “I’m thrilled,” he says. “This might be many players’ first Horizon title—just like our own introductions to the series.” He’s eager to see PS5 players unleash creativity with the Event Lab’s 800+ props, joking, “You’ll even get some solid Halo content thanks to those tools!”
The PS5 port holds its own against Xbox and PC versions—no small feat, considering Horizon’s scale and its engine’s PlayStation debut. “Panic Button did incredible work adapting it,” Arceta notes.
For car enthusiasts, Horizon’s appeal lies in its unrivaled roster of dream rides and surprise favorites. Lead designer David Orton highlights Horizon’s diversity: “Players can road race, chase Rivals times, craft Event Lab creations, or snap stunning photos. There’s truly something for everyone.”
Both Arceta and Orton hope newcomers experience that “How have I never played this?” moment. “Horizon welcomes everyone,” Orton adds. “That realization—that it’s more than just racing—is what excites me.”
For racing fans, console tribalism just took a backseat. Here’s hoping more barriers fall.
