The long-running GTA 6 mapping project has shifted into high gear following the release of Trailer 2, with one of its key members telling IGN, "It really changes everything for us for the rest of the year." The GTA 6 Mapping Discord community, currently boasting 370 members and soon to surpass 400, is abuzz as they dive into the wealth of new details provided by the trailer.
"It's an information overload - it really changes everything for us for the rest of the year," Garza, who oversees the Discord server, told IGN. "We have so much new content to work on and we're really just getting started."
The GTA 6 Mapping Discord was established in the wake of the massive September 2022 leaks, which some believe were humorously referenced by Rockstar at the beginning of Trailer 2. The project's goal is to create the most accurate map of GTA 6 possible, a task that until now relied on those leaks and the content from December 2023's Trailer 1.
The most recent version of the GTA 6 map, released at the end of March by project lead DuPz0r, is now outdated. The flood of new information from Trailer 2 is helping the team to refine and detail their map even further.

In addition to confirming plot details, characters, and releasing 70 new screenshots, Rockstar provided insights and images of various explorable locations within the state of Leonida, GTA 6's version of Florida. Confirmed locations from this week's reveal include Vice City, mirroring Miami, the tropical Leonida Keys archipelago, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga, a national landmark near the state's northern border.
The volunteers are meticulously analyzing the trailer for precise location details, aiming to align the fictional spaces with their real-world inspirations to enhance the accuracy of GTA 6's map. Once their work is complete, DuPz0r plans to release an updated version, offering fans the most detailed preview of GTA 6's world before its anticipated release in May 2026.
Should Rockstar release additional assets or gameplay footage in the meantime, the volunteers are ready to continue refining their work. Only upon the game's release will they be able to compare their fan-made map to the actual in-game world, revealing the accuracy of their efforts.

However, looming over the project is the threat of action from Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two. In March, a modder who created a playable version of the GTA 6 map within GTA 5 was forced to stop after receiving a takedown notice from Take-Two. This mod was based on the GTA 6 mapping project.
When asked last year about concerns regarding potential action from Take-Two, Garza expressed "some mild concern." He noted, "This project has been going on for quite some time with no direct disruption to our community. However, I always keep it into consideration if they intend on communicating with us in the future for any reason. We do not explicitly showcase leaked material in the map, so I do not believe they would take that down in particular. I believe they are aware that this project gathers popularity and interest in the game, since everyone wants to see how the world may look like. This can be one of the reasons why they haven’t done anything, since it’s not too negative. If I were ever in the situation of receiving a cease and desist though, then I would respectfully cease and desist. As we get closer to a precise map, it may be possible to receive that notice in the future."
