IGN has exciting news for fans eagerly awaiting Hollow Knight: Silksong. The much-anticipated game from Team Cherry, based in Adelaide, South Australia, will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, starting September 18, 2025. This comes as part of the "Game Worlds" exhibition, which will also feature in-depth displays on the game's design and artistic direction.
Team Cherry has yet to provide a precise release date for Silksong, maintaining a broad 2025 window. However, with the game set to be playable at the Melbourne museum, fans speculate that a release might occur before the exhibition's start date, possibly in August.

ACMI co-curators Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell shared their enthusiasm: "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September.
"From the hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s different movements and attacks, to the logic behind the game’s most challenging boss fights – and of course, having the game playable in-gallery – our Silksong displays delve deeply into the details of the game's artistic direction and design. We’re so grateful to Team Cherry for trusting us with their work, and so excited to share that work with you!"
As part of the announcement, ACMI showcased a sprite sheet from Silksong, one of several design elements that will be on display in the "Game Worlds" exhibition. The image was provided to IGN with permission.
With Silksong confirmed for Nintendo Switch and PC, and later for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, the game has been the subject of various teases over the years. Notably, Team Cherry kicked off 2025 with a mysterious tease related to a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hopes of an April re-reveal. The game also made a brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, offering a glimpse of new gameplay and confirming the 2025 release window, marking the most significant update in years.
