Hideki Kamiya Wants To Do Devil May Cry Remake
Hideki Kamiya, the visionary behind the iconic action game series, has expressed his interest in crafting a remake of the original Devil May Cry. In this article, we'll explore Kamiya's vision for the potential remake and delve into the origins of the game that started it all.
Devil May Cry Remake Will Not Be Made Like 24 Years Ago
The gaming industry has witnessed a resurgence of classic titles being remade, with renowned developers bringing new life to games such as Final Fantasy VII, Silent Hill 2, and Resident Evil 4. Now, the legendary director of Devil May Cry, Hideki Kamiya, has voiced his interest in joining this trend with a remake of the original game.
In a recent YouTube video posted on May 8, Kamiya responded to fan inquiries about remakes and sequels. When posed with the question of what he would do with a Devil May Cry remake, he enthusiastically stated, "A remake like that, well, I would like to do that."
First Released 2001
Devil May Cry debuted in 2001, originally conceived as Resident Evil 4. However, the project evolved significantly, leading Capcom to birth the Devil May Cry series instead. Now, nearly 25 years later, Kamiya has shared the personal story behind the game's creation. He revealed that in 2000, a painful breakup left him deeply depressed, and this emotional turmoil fueled the creation of Devil May Cry.
Kamiya admits that he does not replay his games post-release, including Devil May Cry. Yet, when he occasionally watches gameplay clips, he is reminded of the game's age and its dated design. If tasked with remaking it, Kamiya would start from scratch, leveraging modern technology and contemporary game design principles.
While Kamiya isn't currently focused on the project, he remains open to the idea. He confidently remarked, "But if the time comes— I’ll come up with something. That’s what I do." Additionally, Kamiya expressed interest in remaking another of his classics, Viewtiful Joe. With these announcements, fans of his work eagerly anticipate the possibility of seeing these beloved titles reborn in the near future.
