Bethesda has officially launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, a highly anticipated update to the beloved RPG classic. During their recent reveal livestream, the developers highlighted the significant enhancements over the original version, showcasing improved graphics and gameplay mechanics. However, a notable absence from the remaster is the lack of official mod support, which has sparked disappointment among the game's dedicated fanbase.
According to Bethesda's support page, Oblivion Remastered will not feature official modding capabilities. This decision comes as a surprise, especially given Bethesda's history of supporting modding communities with official tools like the Creation Kits for games such as Fallout 4, Skyrim, and Starfield. No specific reasons were provided for this omission, leaving many fans puzzled and concerned about the future of modding for this title.
Despite the lack of official support, the modding community has not been deterred. Enthusiasts are already experimenting with the original game's Creation Kit to see if they can make existing mods compatible with the remaster. Discussions and experiences are being shared actively on platforms like Reddit, where modders are exploring ways to adapt to the new engine, Unreal Engine 5, used in the remastered version.
In an exciting development, fans have also begun exploring Oblivion Remastered in virtual reality (VR). Just three hours after the game's release, users were able to play it in VR using UEVR, a mod tool designed to enable VR play for non-VR games. YouTuber LunchAndVR posted a video showcasing early tests of Oblivion Remastered in VR, using UEVR and motion controls. The video demonstrated stable gameplay at 70 fps on a setup featuring medium graphics settings, DLSS, a GeForce RTX 4090, and an Intel Core i9-13900 with 64GB of RAM. This suggests that with further optimization, Oblivion Remastered could offer a compelling VR experience.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S (accessible via Xbox Game Pass), and PC. For the latest updates and more information about the game, be sure to check out our comprehensive article below!
