Path of Exile 1 Update Delayed Indefinitely Due to Path of Exile 2 Issues
Grinding Gear Games (GGG) has issued an apology to Path of Exile (PoE) 1 players for the indefinite delay of the 3.26 update. The update, initially slated for late October 2024, then mid-February 2025, has been postponed due to the unforeseen challenges encountered with the launch of Path of Exile 2.
GGG had previously committed to continued support for PoE 1 even after the release of PoE 2. However, the PoE 1 development team was reassigned to assist with the launch of PoE 2, specifically addressing issues within the endgame. While the intention was to return to PoE 1's 3.26 update after stabilizing PoE 2, the magnitude of the problems encountered, including crashes and balance issues, made this impossible.
In a video message, Jonathan Rogers, PoE 2 game director and GGG co-founder, acknowledged the studio's miscalculation. He stated that the decision to divert resources from PoE 1 to PoE 2 was a mistake, admitting they were "fooling ourselves" regarding the available time. The unforeseen delays and issues with PoE 2 necessitated keeping the experienced developers focused on resolving those critical problems.
The delay affects PoE 1 players who last saw a new league (Settlers of Kalguur) in July 2024. Rogers expressed regret for the situation and the lack of a concrete timeline for the 3.26 update, stating that the team will continue to work on PoE 2 until at least version 0.2.0 is released and likely for a couple of weeks beyond that.
PoE 2's early access launch on December 6th, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, proved massively successful, achieving a remarkable position among the most played Steam games ever. Despite this success, the focus remains on resolving PoE 2's ongoing issues before returning to the development of PoE 1's 3.26 update.
