Following the exciting reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, it appears the partnership between Nintendo and Xbox is set to continue seamlessly. Phil Spencer, Microsoft's head of gaming, recently reaffirmed his commitment to the Switch platform, emphasizing its importance in reaching gamers who aren't on Xbox or PC.
In a recent interview with Variety, Spencer was quizzed on whether he had any specific projects lined up for the Nintendo Switch 2. He responded by stating that just as Microsoft has supported the original Switch, it intends to do the same with the Switch 2.
"Nintendo has been an incredible partner," Spencer noted. "It offers us a unique opportunity to connect with players who aren't PC or Xbox users. It's a way for us to expand our community and keep our beloved franchises alive and thriving, which is crucial for our ongoing investment in game development."
Spencer expressed his admiration for Nintendo's role in the gaming industry, saying, "I’m a big believer in what Nintendo brings to the table and our continued collaboration with them. Their support for our franchises is a vital part of our future."
Spencer has consistently championed the Nintendo Switch 2, praising Nintendo's innovative approach, especially around the time of the Switch 2's initial teaser. He also confirmed Xbox's strategy to broaden the availability of its games across various platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo's consoles.
When asked by Variety if the Switch 2 reveal spurred any urgency to unveil Xbox's next console lineup, Spencer remained unfazed. "No," he stated. "Our focus should be on nurturing our communities and player base. While I'm inspired by the work of other creators and platform holders, I have full confidence in our existing plans."
The Xbox executive reiterated the company's commitment to making its games accessible on as many platforms as possible, including cloud, PC, and consoles. Titles like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already made their way to Nintendo platforms, and it will be fascinating to see what Xbox has in store for the Switch 2 upon its official release.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for its official debut on June 5, 2025. While pre-orders have yet to commence, keep an eye on our Switch 2 pre-order hub page for the latest updates on when those might become available.
