Spider-Man 2's PC port, initially touted for its impressive performance based on its system requirements, has received a mixed reception on Steam. A significant number of players are reporting various technical problems, resulting in a "mixed" user review rating.
Currently, only 55% of Steam reviews are positive. Many users, even those with high-end hardware like RTX 4090 GPUs and the latest Nvidia drivers, are experiencing frequent crashes. Reports include game crashes every five minutes, rendering the game unplayable for some. One user stated, "The game frequently crashes...despite having a high-end GPU and running the latest Nvidia drivers." Another commented, "The game is completely unplayable on PC. The game crashes to desktop every five minutes."
Reviewers describe the game's performance as "rough," citing issues such as incompletely loaded lighting in cutscenes, extremely low frame rates in these scenes, significant audio desynchronization, freezing, stuttering, and other performance problems. Many are requesting refunds due to the instability.
A common error message points to display driver problems, suggesting outdated drivers, excessively high in-game settings, GPU overheating, or a game-related error.
Further complaints include malfunctioning DLSS and ray tracing features, extended loading times, missing textures, and persistent audio problems. Some players report performance stutters escalating to hard crashes after extended gameplay sessions, possibly indicating a memory leak.
Nixxes, the developer responsible for the port, acknowledged the crashes on the Steam forums, directing users to their support website for troubleshooting guides and requesting logs and crash dumps for faster diagnosis. They also addressed a bug affecting photo-op missions, suggesting lowering graphics settings or resolution as a temporary fix if frame rates drop below 20 FPS.
