Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Yakuza/Like a Dragon series by letting fans vote on the next official merchandise items! Fans get to choose from a whopping 100 options, with the top two vote-getters slated for release within the next two years. The poll is currently only available in Japanese, but submissions can be made on the official website.
The selection is a wild mix of the expected and the utterly bizarre, drawing heavily from the series' memorable moments and eccentric characters.
While more conventional items like anniversary hoodies and pencil cases are included, many choices are truly unique. Consider the cult outfit from Yakuza 0, Majima's infamous traffic cone hiding spot from Yakuza Kiwami, or the intriguingly named "Puffy Gold Pants." Other options include Majima's sake cup, Akiyama's gold watch, Kiryu's pen from Yakuza 6, Kashiwagi's tambourine, Kiryu's wrestling mask, and Saejima's prison uniform – just to name a few of the many quirky items.
2025 will mark at least one new game release for the franchise's anniversary, with Like a Dragon: Pirate of the Caribbean slated for February 21st. While a second release is unconfirmed, RGG Studio's history of rapid development – nine games in the last five years, including several Yakuza titles, Super Monkey Ball games, and a Virtua Fighter remaster – suggests it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility. The studio previously celebrated the 10th anniversary with the release of the beloved prequel, Yakuza 0. Whether a similar commemorative project is planned for the 20th anniversary remains to be seen.
