Zelda Speedrunner Sets New Record, Beats Final Boss in Under 10 Minutes at Nintendo Switch 2 Event

At the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience in Japan, a remarkable feat was accomplished by Japanese content creator Ikaboze, who speedran The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch 2. With a playtime cap set at just 10 minutes, Ikaboze managed to beat the critically-acclaimed RPG under these tight constraints. As reported by VGC, Ikaboze used an existing save file but was unaware of the equipment Link had available. Determined to "defeat the final boss while tied up completely naked and with all my equipment removed," he engaged Ganon directly. Astonishingly, just seven minutes into the battle, Ganon was defeated, leading to spontaneous applause from onlookers.

The achievement was all the more impressive given Ikaboze's unfamiliarity with the controller and the noisy convention hall, which prevented him from hearing the game's audio. Reflecting on the experience, Ikaboze said, "I was surprised by how many people had gathered. Staff were even filming on their smartphones. This was the first time anyone had completed the Breath of the Wild demo, and staff congratulated me."

The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, along with achievements and support for the new "Zelda Notes" service available through the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Breath of the Wild on the Switch can upgrade to these new features with a $10 upgrade pack. Additionally, both Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom upgrade packs are available at no extra cost to Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack subscribers.

For those interested in purchasing the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games without upgrading, here are the U.S. prices:

  • Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders began on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The pre-orders were met with high demand, and Nintendo has warned U.S. customers applying for a Switch 2 pre-order from the My Nintendo Store that release date delivery is not guaranteed due to the overwhelming interest.
