Battlefield Labs: Shaping the Future of Battlefield Through Community Collaboration
Battlefield Studios, in partnership with Electronic Arts (EA), has launched Battlefield Labs – a revolutionary player feedback platform designed to directly involve the community in shaping future Battlefield installments. Announced on February 3, 2025, this initiative marks a significant shift towards collaborative game development.
Community Influence at the Forefront
The upcoming Battlefield game is entering a crucial development phase, and Battlefield Studios recognizes the invaluable contribution of player feedback. Selected players from European and North American servers will be invited to participate in the initial phase of Battlefield Labs, providing hands-on testing of new features and mechanics. While participation is currently invite-only, registration is open for those interested in future opportunities. The studio assures that regular updates will be shared with the broader community.
"This game has immense potential," stated Vince Zampella, Head of Respawn & Group GM for EA Studios Organization. "Battlefield Labs empowers our teams to tap into that potential through pre-alpha testing and direct community involvement."
The initiative encompasses DICE, Ripple Effect, Motive, and Criterion studios, bringing together a wealth of Battlefield experience and expertise.
Testing Core Gameplay Elements
Battlefield Labs will focus on iterative testing of key gameplay components. The initial phase will concentrate on core combat, destruction, and weapon, vehicle, and gadget balancing. This will eventually extend to map design, game modes, and squad dynamics.
Two established modes, Conquest and Breakthrough, will be included, offering opportunities to refine existing mechanics and explore innovative improvements. Conquest emphasizes large-scale battles centered around capturing control points, while Breakthrough features a more dynamic attacker/defender dynamic with sector control as the primary objective. Both modes utilize a ticket-based system to determine victory.
Further development will focus on refining the class system, leveraging player feedback to achieve the optimal balance between functionality and player experience. While internal playtesting is ongoing, Battlefield Studios believes community input is vital to achieve the game's full potential.
Battlefield Labs represents a commitment to community-driven development, ensuring the future of the Battlefield franchise is shaped by the players themselves.
