Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently unveiled more details about his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream. This innovative game, initially announced in 2018, is finally taking shape, with Gallium Studio providing continuous development updates. Learn more about Proxi's unique approach to interactive memories.
A Deep Dive into Personal Experiences
The livestream, hosted by BreakthroughT1D (a leading organization dedicated to type 1 diabetes research), featured Wright discussing Proxi within their "Dev Diaries" interview series. The series explores developers' experiences and their games, often with a focus on personal connections.
Wright explained that Proxi is an AI life simulator built directly from players' memories. Players input personal memories as paragraphs, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable using in-game assets for greater accuracy. Each new memory ("mem") enhances the game's AI and adds to the player's "mind world"—a navigable 3D environment of hexagons.
This mind world expands and populates with "Proxies" representing friends and family as more memories are added. Memories are arranged chronologically and linked to Proxies, reflecting the context and participants of each memory. Remarkably, Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox.
The core goal of Proxi is to create "magical connections with memories, bringing them to life." Wright emphasized the game's intensely personal nature, stating, "I found myself getting continuously closer and closer to the player." He jokingly added, "No game designer ever went wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players. The more I can make a game about you, the more you'll like it."
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements forthcoming.
