Firaxis Games announces a virtual reality edition of the recently released Civilization VII.

Sid Meier's Civilization VII - VR, the first VR entry in the long-running strategy series, will launch Spring 2025 exclusively on Meta Quest 3 and 3S headsets.

Here's the official description:

Civilization VII - VR brings the world of Civilization to life as never before. The game unfolds on a Command Table, allowing players to zoom in for intricate details or zoom out for a grand overview, resembling a dynamic tabletop experience. Players interact directly with iconic world leaders, forging alliances or declaring war across the ages.

Offering both immersive VR and mixed reality modes, seamlessly switchable between the two, Civilization VII - VR immerses players in an ornate museum overlooking a leader-specific vista in VR, while in mixed reality, the Command Table adapts to the player's physical space. Detailed dioramas showcasing gameplay achievements are viewable in The Archives, a museum room accessible in both VR and mixed reality. Beyond single-player, online multiplayer matches for up to four Meta Quest 3 and 3S players are supported.

The PC and console versions of Firaxis' 4X strategy game, currently available via early access, have received mixed player feedback on Steam, citing UI issues, limited map variety, and missing features.

Firaxis has addressed this feedback, promising UI improvements, the addition of team-based cooperative multiplayer, expanded map types, and other enhancements.

In an interview with IGN prior to the release of third-quarter financial results, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged negative player and press reviews but expressed confidence that the "legacy Civ audience" would appreciate the game with more playtime, describing its initial performance as "very encouraging."
