Street Fighter 6 Hits 5M Sales After Switch 2 Debut

Author : Alexis Oct 26,2025

Street Fighter 6 has now surpassed 5 million copies sold worldwide, Capcom announced today. This represents a significant increase from the 4 million units reported back in September 2024. The fighting game's recent sales boost comes following its successful launch on Nintendo Switch 2.

Capcom stated its strategy was to "expand the game's player base" by releasing Street Fighter 6 (now in its second year) as a Switch 2 launch title. This version includes exclusive modes tailored for Nintendo's console, along with innovative gameplay features that take advantage of the Joy-Con 2's gyroscopic capabilities. Notably, the Switch 2 edition supports cross-platform play, significantly increasing matchmaking opportunities across all platforms.

"These strategic decisions have broadened Street Fighter 6's global appeal, increased worldwide sales, and helped the game reach this 5 million unit milestone," Capcom stated.

Street Fighter 6 reached 3 million copies sold back in January 2024, just seven months after its initial release. While Capcom reports the game is "progressing according to expectations," the company previously revealed ambitions for the sequel to outsell Street Fighter 5, targeting lifetime sales exceeding 10 million units.

"While we don't disclose specific budget figures, our goal is to surpass Street Fighter 5's performance, with a target of selling over 10 million copies throughout the game's lifespan," a Capcom spokesperson explained. The latest installment still has considerable ground to cover before overtaking Street Fighter 5's current 7.8 million sales.

For historical context, Street Fighter 2 Turbo (1993) sold 4.1 million copies on SNES, the original Street Fighter 2 achieved 6.3 million sales, while Street Fighter 5 currently stands at 7.8 million.

An interesting parallel can be drawn with competing fighter Mortal Kombat 1, which has also reached 5 million units sold since its September 2023 launch. While the Mortal Kombat franchise typically dominates fighting game sales, this installment is considered underperforming - leading developer NetherRealm to recently confirm they've moved on to new projects.

Capcom continues robust support for Street Fighter 6 into its third year, recently unveiling four upcoming DLC characters: Sagat arrives this summer; C. Viper follows this fall; Alex debuts in early spring 2026; with Ingrid completing the roster in late spring 2026. The reveal trailer featured pro wrestler Kenny Omega portraying each new combatant.

IGN awarded Street Fighter 6 a 9/10 in its review, praising: "Street Fighter 6 offers the most comprehensive launch content series history, showcasing an outstanding roster of 18 characters. Its innovative mechanics breathe new life into the fighting genre while perfecting the nuanced details that elevate great fighting games."
