Lies of P DLC Will Adjust Difficulty, Says Director

Lies of P developer Neowiz unveiled DLC Overture during Summer Game Fest, bringing fresh locales, adversaries, bosses, characters, weaponry, and the contentious addition of two easier difficulty settings. Now, these accessibility options are being further streamlined as the team implements a "difficulty reduction."

As a challenging "Soulslike" title, Lies of P presents formidable obstacles, particularly for newcomers drawn to its Gothic narrative. Director Jiwon Choi initially maintained that Soulslikes shouldn't feature difficulty options, launching the base game with a singular, brutal experience. However, the studio subsequently reconsidered: "We wanted to ensure broader accessibility for players," Choi explained.

PlayFor purists tackling Overture on its default Legendary Stalker setting, the challenge appears more punishing than ever. The polarizing difficulty spike generated such intense debate that the Lies of P subreddit consolidated discussions into a megathread to contain the discourse.

Steam reviews reflect this divide, with one player noting: "At level 300, basic foes shouldn't eliminate me in two hits. The enemy formations compound this issue by forcing engagements with multiple threats simultaneously - problematic when any single attack removes half your health bar."

Neowiz subsequently addressed these concerns through a new Director's Letter, signaling forthcoming adjustments. "We're meticulously evaluating all feedback, prioritizing combat refinements," Choi stated (via Eurogamer). "Certain elements didn't meet our vision, so we're implementing comprehensive adjustments, including difficulty tuning. However, as combat forms Lies of P's core identity, these modifications require extensive testing."

The studio has yet to specify a timeline for these changes. Our review team praised both the base game and DLC with 8/10 scores, with our Overture critique stating: "While adhering to established conventions, Lies of P: Overture meaningfully expands an already exceptional foundation."
