The excitement around Split Fiction continues to grow as streamers tackle its challenging secret stages. Recently, Chinese streamers sharkOvO and E1uM4y conquered the notorious "Laser Hell" challenge, earning them a coveted trip to Hazelight Studios. Dive into the details of this thrilling achievement and discover what Hazelight Studios has planned following the success of Split Fiction.
Split Fiction Continues With More Surprises
First Players to Finish "Laser Hell" Challenge Earn a Trip to Hazelight Studios
Following its successful launch last month, Split Fiction continues to captivate players with hidden surprises like the secret "Laser Hell" stage. This stage, known for its difficulty, was recently completed by the dynamic duo of sharkOvO and E1uM4y. Their accomplishment was showcased in a video on BiliBili, where they demonstrated how to access the stage by entering a specific sequence on the elevator switches in the Isolation level. Upon success, they were greeted with a platform riddled with lasers.
Their triumph unlocked a congratulatory video from Hazelight's founder, Josef Fares, who praised their skill and revealed that even most of the studio's developers struggled with the level. Fares then extended an invitation for the streamers to visit Hazelight Studios in Sweden. On March 19, he further celebrated their achievement on Twitter (X), stating, "Congrats to 'sharkOvO' and 'E1uM4y' for finishing the secret challenge 'Laser Hell' in #splitfiction. VERY impressive! I will keep my promise and invite you both to Sweden for an early look at our next game. We'll be in touch!"
Hazelight Studios Working On Its Next Game
In a recent interview on The Friends Per Second podcast on March 17, Josef Fares discussed Hazelight's relationship with publisher EA and shared insights into their next project. Fares expressed a sense of completion with each game release, noting, "For me, personally, every time a game is out, I’m kind of done with it. I’m kind of like, ‘OK, here’s the next thing.’" He highlighted Split Fiction as particularly special, mentioning its positive reception and the studio's excitement for their upcoming project.
While Fares remained tight-lipped about the specifics of their new game, he mentioned that development began about a month ago and emphasized the studio's quick turnaround time, stating, "You do know, at Hazelight, we don’t work on [a] game more than three or four years. Three or four years is not so far away. Then we’re going to talk more about it. It’s way too early, but just know this: we are very, very, very, very excited here."
Regarding their partnership with EA, Fares clarified, "Here’s the thing, people don’t understand this: EA is a supporter. We don’t pitch games to them." He stressed EA's hands-off approach, saying, "They have zero, and I mean zero, thing to say about what we’re doing next." Fares praised EA's support and respect for Hazelight's creative process, despite mixed experiences other developers might have with the publisher.
First Update and Hitting 2 Million Sales in 1 Week
On March 17, Split Fiction received its first update, addressing various issues reported by the community since its launch. The update fixed in-game mechanics, minor glitches in online play, and improved localization and subtitles across all languages.
In addition to the update, Split Fiction achieved a remarkable milestone by selling over 2 million copies within its first week. This impressive figure contrasts with Hazelight's previous hit, It Takes Two, which sold 1 million copies a few weeks after its launch and reached 20 million by October 2024.
