Take-Two Boss Says 'Legacy' Civilization Audience Will Eventually Come Around on Civilization 7 Amid 'Mixed' Steam User Reviews

Civilization 7's launch has garnered mixed Steam reviews, but Take-Two's CEO remains optimistic. While hardcore fans, who have early access, have voiced concerns about the UI, limited map variety, and missing features, the CEO, Strauss Zelnick, believes their opinions will shift positively with continued gameplay.

The game currently boasts a Metacritic score of 81 and numerous reviews exceeding 90, though some negative reviews, like Eurogamer's 2/5, exist. Zelnick attributes the initial negativity to the significant changes implemented by Firaxis, specifically the innovative three-age campaign structure with simultaneous Age Transitions. This involves choosing a new civilization, selecting carried-over Legacies, and witnessing world evolution – a novel feature in the Civilization series.

Zelnick highlights the game's "very encouraging" early performance, acknowledging UI issues and other concerns that Firaxis is actively addressing. He anticipates that the "legacy Civ audience," initially apprehensive about the changes, will ultimately appreciate the game's depth and innovation.

However, Firaxis faces the challenge of improving player sentiment, particularly on Steam. The platform's user review rating significantly impacts a game's visibility and overall success. Addressing the identified shortcomings is crucial for boosting the game's reception and achieving wider acceptance among the Civilization community.
