Powering The Witcher 4 and Beyond with UE5
CD Projekt Red recently confirmed via Twitter (X) that The Witcher 4 will take center stage during the State of Unreal 2025 event on June 3 at 9:30 AM ET / 3:30 PM CEST. The showcase will be available to stream live via the Unreal Engine’s official YouTube and Twitch channels.
Fans can expect this segment to highlight some of the groundbreaking technology and features that are powering The Witcher 4, offering a glimpse into how UE5 is being leveraged to create a vast, immersive open world.
While details remain scarce, this could be our first chance to see actual in-game or in-engine footage, and perhaps even gameplay footage. So far, CDPR has only released a high-quality cinematic CGI trailer that introduced Ciri as the new protagonist, setting the stage for an emotionally charged and narratively rich experience.
Additionally, CDPR hinted that the technology developed for The Witcher 4 will have implications "beyond" this title, suggesting it may also underpin future projects such as the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2. However, no official confirmation has been made regarding other titles just yet.
Every Game Must Bring Something New
In a recent episode of CDPR’s AnsweRED podcast, co-CEO Adam Badowski shared insights into the studio's philosophy when developing new games. As part of the celebration of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's 10th anniversary, Badowski reflected on the creative decisions that helped define that game's legacy.
He explained, “At the very beginning of The Witcher 3, we decided to combine those two things: water and fire. We would like to continue this approach with all our next games.” He emphasized CDPR’s commitment to innovation—never repeating the same tricks but always striving to introduce something fresh and meaningful with each project.
Badowski further elaborated:
“We have to add something that changes the consensus. We don’t want to copy our own tricks again and again. So every game should consist of something new.”
This philosophy became a guiding principle that contributed greatly to the success of The Witcher 3, and now, fans are eager to discover how it will shape The Witcher 4—especially with Ciri stepping into the lead role.
Looking Ahead
As anticipation builds, players are keen to learn how the shift in perspective—from Geralt to Ciri—will influence both narrative depth and gameplay mechanics. The Witcher 4 is currently scheduled for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, though no specific release window has been announced yet.
