Civilization 7 Patch 1.0.1 Addresses Some of the Negative Feedback From Advanced Access

Author : Mia Feb 18,2025

Firaxis, the developer behind Civilization 7, has released patch 1.0.1, addressing player feedback following the game's full launch. The patch, available for PC, Mac, Linux, and Steam Deck, is the first of several planned updates aimed at improving the overall experience. Initial player reviews on Steam were mixed, citing concerns about the user interface, limited map variety, and missing features.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, while acknowledging negative feedback, expressed confidence in the game's long-term appeal to the established Civilization fanbase. He described the game's early performance as "very encouraging."

This initial patch focuses on several key areas:

Gameplay Improvements:

  • Fixes for shorter-than-intended ages in Epic and Marathon speed games.
  • City-states now transition to Friendly Independent Powers instead of disappearing during Age transitions, starting with more units in Exploration and Modern Ages.
  • Corrections to naval combat inconsistencies, ensuring accurate combat strength values, reciprocal damage, and movement after battles.
  • Preventing unintended age progress upon completing Legacy Path milestones.
  • Towns automatically resume growth when focus conditions are no longer met.
  • "Future Civic" is now repeatable across all ages, with increased costs for repeated use.
  • Fixes for negative food values resulting from excessive growth bonuses.
  • Improved rail network reliability for settlements connected via ports.
  • Loyalty crisis adjustments in the Antiquity Age, including the ability to purchase Villas.

AI Enhancements:

  • Reduced frequency of AI offering high-value cities in peace deals.
  • Decreased AI war declarations at the start of the Modern Age.
  • Increased AI consideration of ideology before declaring war or offering peace.
  • Adjusted AI war and peace desires based on ideological alignment.

Camera Fixes:

  • Resolved an issue causing the camera to focus incorrectly on the minimap in native resolutions.

UI/UX Improvements:

  • Temporary replacement of the Simplified Chinese font with the Civilization VI font.
  • Fixes for issues with the Settlement menu, yield icons, Global Yields Breakdown screen text, and Espionage action notifications.
  • City projects are no longer incorrectly displayed as purchasable.
  • The current religion is now prioritized in the belief picker.
  • Fixes for lingering health bars and missing leader portraits.
  • Improved alignment of leader names and portraits on the Age Summary screen.
  • Fixes for default background color issues in the Player Customize tab.
  • Improved spacing on the loading screen.

Cross-play Note: Cross-play multiplayer between PC and console players has been temporarily disabled to expedite PC patch deployment. This will not affect console-to-console or PC-to-PC multiplayer. PC patches may be released at a different pace than console patches.

This patch represents a significant step towards addressing community concerns and improving the Civilization 7 experience. Further patches are expected to follow.
