In a recent interview, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, the former lead quest designer of The Witcher 3, shared intriguing insights into the challenges faced by CD Projekt Red (CDPR) when integrating a grand narrative into an open-world game. Tomaszkiewicz revealed that the studio had initial reservations about whether such a narrative could coexist seamlessly within an open-world framework.

"Few games have dared to attempt what we did: blending expansive storytelling techniques, usually reserved for linear RPGs with corridor-like structures, such as The Witcher 2, and adapting them to fit an open-world experience," Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz.
Initially, CDPR was concerned that the ambitious scope of the story might clash with the open-world design. Despite these concerns, the development team decided to take the leap, resulting in the creation of one of the most celebrated RPGs of all time—The Witcher 3. Today, Tomaszkiewicz leads the team at Rebel Wolves, which is currently developing The Blood of Dawnwalker. Set in an alternative medieval Eastern Europe with dark fantasy undertones, the game places vampires at its core.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is under development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series platforms. Although no official release date has been announced, fans can look forward to a gameplay reveal this summer.
