EA’s long-awaited revival of Skate will require a constant internet connection, according to an updated FAQ released on the official blog. Developer Full Circle confirmed with a straightforward “No” whether offline play will be possible, explaining that the game world is built as a dynamic, evolving multiplayer environment. The city is designed to function as a living, shared space—constantly changing and hosting live events, seasonal updates, and interactive elements that reflect its always-connected nature.
An “always on” requirement means players cannot access the game without an active internet connection—even when opting for single-player content. Full Circle clarified this decision by stating, “To deliver on our vision of a skateboarding world, the game will always require a live connection.”
The team also noted that this limitation likely won’t come as a shock to those who participated in their recent testing phases. In September 2024, Full Circle launched its Always-On Playtest, which focuses on running the game in a continuous live environment with servers operating 24/7 to simulate real-world conditions ahead of launch.
Skate Early Access Launch Expected in 2025
The game is currently scheduled to enter early access in 2025, though no exact release date has been announced yet. Originally revealed during EA Play back in 2020, Skate was described at the time as being in very early development. Since then, Full Circle has kept fans engaged through private community playtests and most recently, the introduction of microtransactions into the gameplay economy.
Real-money spending comes in the form of San Van Bucks (SVB), a virtual currency used to purchase cosmetic items such as decks, outfits, and accessories. According to the developer, these transactions are part of a broader effort to fine-tune the store experience before the full early access rollout.
“We know that using real money during a playtest is somewhat unconventional, but we believe it's the best way to accurately evaluate and refine the system prior to launch,” the team stated in a recent blog post. “If you notice fluctuating prices or adjustments over time, please keep in mind that this is part of the process. And rest assured, all funds spent during the playtest will be credited back to you in SVB when we reset for the Early Access launch.”
