Developer Announces Major Tweaks to REPO's Overcharge and Difficulty Scaling

Author : Violet May 13,2025

REPO, the exciting new game from Semiwork, is set to undergo significant changes in its difficulty scaling and Overcharge mechanic. These updates, inspired by feedback from the game's open beta, aim to enhance player experience and deepen the game's lore. Let's dive into the details of what's coming in the next update.

REPO Development Updates

Overcharge Overhaul

During REPO's recent open beta, players had the chance to experience the Overcharge mechanic, which allows them to counter enemies by picking them up and throwing them onto hard surfaces or away from their team. However, this action comes with a risk; an overcharge meter fills up, and if it reaches its limit, the player will explode. Initially available from the start, the developers have decided to introduce this mechanic at level 10 to better align with the game's progression system.

In a strategic move to enhance the game's challenge, Semiwork plans to introduce new difficulty-increasing mechanics every 10 levels, starting with Overcharge at level 10, then at levels 20, 30, and beyond. These mechanics are not just for increasing difficulty but are also intricately tied to the game's lore. As Semiwork's developers stated, "So this system will be also tied to lore. It won’t be just a gimmick for no reason. There will be something attached to this and we will share more details in the future."

Developers Joined Open Beta Matchmaking

To gather direct feedback, developers from Semiwork, including Pontus Sundstrom, participated incognito in random matches during the open beta. This hands-on approach allowed them to interact with players and understand their experiences firsthand. Sundstrom shared, "And I've also actually played with a lot of you guys - incognito, in secret, through the random matchmaking in the servers. And I've been asking some questions and finding out what you guys find fun, stuff like that."

The developers at Semiwork are committed to using this valuable community feedback to refine REPO. With promises of more updates and details to come, players can anticipate an evolving and engaging gaming experience.
